Murder and Mayhem in Franklin County
On Sunday, September 26, 1985 Ilse Newell was found dead in the yard of her Magnolia Bluff home. What happened to Ilse Newell? Historical research addresses the circumstances of her untimely death. Dr. Lois Swoboda will present this third installment of the ever-popular series entitled Murder and Mayhem in Franklin County at the Raney Carriage House, 128 Market Street in Apalachicola.

Holiday Cheer at Raney House
Dear Historical Society Friends, Preparations are being made for an annual Holiday Event at the Raney House. The date is December 9 4:30 - 6PM. We are not doing the whole "Festival of Trees" fundraising event, but would like to have some holiday decorations to sell that day. History expert Dr. Kevin Bair will speak about the Southern Antebellum period’s use of natural ice, Fredric Tudor’s natural ice trade, the period’s medical use of ice to treat malaria and yellow fever, John Gorrie’s quest for ice and refrigeration, and how the Civil War Naval Blockade of Southern ports caused the ice dependent South in 1862.
