Remembering Dawn Lee McKenna – The McKenna/Blackwell Book Signing

November 2 @ 11:00 am - 5:00 pm

On a busy Seafood Festival weekend, be sure to carve out time for a special event at Downtown Books. Author Dawn Lee McKenna loved Apalach, and Seafood Festival was high up on her bucket list. Sadly, she succumbed to illness in 2022, but her daughter Kat Scheidler and her writing partner Axel Blackwell will be here at 11:00 on Saturday, November 2 to sign books and talk about their plans to keep Dawn’s literary legacy alive. Her stories feature sharply-observed characters, rich Gulf Coast atmosphere, and wry humor. The trademark cliff-hanger endings have long tantalyzed readers. Finally, Kat and Axel are prepared to turn the page.

In the Forgotten Coast Suspense series, set in Apalachicola and on St. George Island, protagonist Maggie Redmond juggles her work as a county sheriff’s deputy, her complicated relationships with half the inhabitants of Franklin County, and family secrets stretching back a long way. The spin-off Still Waters books, co-authored by Blackwell and set in Port St. Joe, feature Evan Caldwell, a cop who lives aboard his boat, tends to his comatose wife, and tackles the crimes that crop up in the sleepy Panhandle town with surprising regularity.

The McKenna/Blackwell books and Blackwell’s own Detective McDaniel thrillers will be available for purchase on Saturday, but longtime fans are also encouraged to bring in their personal copies to be inscribed by Kat and Axel. Downtown Books is at 67 Commerce Street in Apalachicola.
