Art Opening at Apalach Waters

Art opening for Chrisse J Hawkes presenting the Florida Birds Collection. Friday May 4th & Saturday May 5th, both from 10:00am until 4:00pm, followed by a meet the artist reception from 4:00pm-7:00pm each night. Opening to be held at Apalach Waters / Apalach Olive Oil Company 31 Ave E in Apalachicola.

Chrissie J Hawkes is an emerging artist with studios in Mount Dora Florida, and Cambridge in the UK where she spends the summer. A lifelong love of quilting has given way to painting in recent years and she works in oils, acrylics and pencil creating a variety of realism and abstract pieces. She has studied with art teachers in the US and the UK and is a member of 5th Avenue Painters in Mount Dora. In September this year she will attend a 6-day workshop on color, light and theory at the Royal Academy in London. Chrissie has had paintings exhibited in Winter Park, Florida and was the featured artist of the month in her first solo gallery show in Mount Dora in March. She also had a painting accepted for a Bauhaus Gallery online show earlier this year and will be a featured artist at Apalach Waters in Apalachicola in May. Her most recent work has focused on the creation of a series of Florida birds which form the core of the Apalach Waters exhibition.

The Florida Birds Collection was inspired by the many beautiful birds Chrissie is surrounded by in her life in Florida. Her references for the paintings are photographs she or friends have taken. She finds Blue Herons, Sandhill Cranes and Egrets, in particular, a joy to paint with their graceful lines and oozing personality as they come to life on the canvas. She loves to draw or paint an animal or bird to the point where she can feel the bones and get the twinkle in their eye.
