Mystic Krewe of Salty Barkers is excited to present the Annual Apalachicola Mardi Gras Barkus Parade on Saturday, February 23, 2019, in downtown Apalachicola at 1:00 pm. This year’s theme is “Furry Tails Do Come True”. We invite you to come out and enjoy the furry family-friendly street parade and festival. Be part of the fun – dress up yourself, your dog, even your bicycle or golf cart!
The festivities will start at 11:00 am at Riverfront Park with live entertainment There will be a wide variety of local food and beverage vendors to choose from. In addition there will be a wide variety of local arts and crafts vendors selling their wares as well as specialty beads for sale. Regional non-profit organizations will share their missions at the festival in unique ways. You won’t want to miss the Fishy Fashion Show preview.
The King and Queen of Apalachicola’s Mardi Gras are always shelter animals who are ready for a forever home. They will, as usual, have a place of honor in the parade.
The parade begins at 1:00 at the intersection of Avenue E and Water Street. After passing Riverfront Park and turning right on Avenue D the procession will turn right on Commerce Street taking revelers past the Oyster City Brewing Company and continuing on Commerce before circling back to Water Street and ending at Riverfront Park for the post parade party. You can register to participate in the parade on the day of parade at Riverfront Park. Registration is $5.00 per person or $20 per golf cart, float, or boat. Pets are free, of course!
In the tradition of the Salty Barker Krewe, profits from the parade will be donated to help care for the animals in the Franklin County area. This year the beneficiaries will be the Franklin County Humane Society (80%) and the Florida Wild Mammal Association (20%). Since 2015, the Krewe has raised over $4,000.00 in support of the Franklin County Humane Society. In addition the Krewe has proactively equipped the Apalachicola Dog Park with multiple waste stations, steel water bowls, garbage cans, waste supplies, signage and benches for the comfort of park guests for a total donation of $1,542.06. The Krewe also helped coordinate a collection of dog and cat food to be distributed during the holidays to pet owners who were receiving hospice care.
We greatly appreciate the support of the local businesses and families who proudly sponsor the Krewe in its tradition of charity and service to animals
