This week is going to be a fun one… for so many reasons… a wide range of genres, and seriously good talent … a great way to bring on the sunshine of spring…
Ready…. set… GO!
Wednesday, April 4 – BS Open Mic rolls from 6-8ish. This weekly event has been a mainstay in local entertainment for years, and has fostered the development of numerous performers as they gain their confidence and stage presence. All levels of talent are welcomed and appreciated. Get in early for a seat as the last few weeks have been packed houses!!! As always, tips for performers from BS Open Mic go to charity, and this week we will be raising money for the Cricket Fund that helps pay for mammograms for underprivileged women in Franklin and Gulf counties, leading up to our Chickfest 2018 on May 11 and 12th! So come on out and belt out a tune or two for a great cause and great fun.
Thursday, April 5 – Back from California, Bowery Station is pleased and honored to have Pope Paul and the Illegals back on stage from 6-9pm. The act that anchored last year’s ApalachOktoberfest, this trio puts on a high energy show of rockabilly, swing, honky-tonk and blues, and never lets up. When we say we are making Thursdays the new Fridays, these cats define the concept. Get in early as we are sure this will be a packed house… but who needs a seat cause very few can sit down once Paul gets on a roll.
Friday, April 6 – Cat Braaten opens the day from 3-5pm. Cat, a featured artist in our upcoming Chickfest 2018, is a unique female vocalist that plays a precussive guitar through a setlist of covers and thought provoking originals. Then, heads up..DEBUT ALERT! Mobile, Alabama based singer / songwriter, Ryan Balthrop joins us for a Friday performance from 6:30-9:30pm. Ryan has been writing and performing with various bands for nearly 20 years along the Gulf Coast and around the Southeastern United States, with Caribbean and European tours also under his belt. In recent years he has stayed closer to home and focused on writing and recording at MEKA Studios. Possessing a natural stage presence, a strong soulful voice and a quirky sense of humor, Balthrop continues to impress audiences in a diverse number of ways. His style is a blend of Island Blues, Folk, Funk, Reggae, and Improv. It’s rare Bowery Station puts on a soloist on a Friday evening, but Balthrop will answer the challenge handily.
Saturday, April 7 – It’s the Apalachicola Art & Wine walk… and at BS we are featuring the performing arts! In the daytime, welcome the Turkeybasters from 2-5pm. Melissa Bowman and Tim Dutrow are ready to take on the crowds with one of their signature performances. When this duo combines their immense talents expect the crowd to be glued to the stage. Melissa, also a featured artist in Chickfest 2018 as part of the Krickets, has a powerful stage presence, both with her vocals and guitar, but when Dutrow, a masterful percussionist joins her… you rarely get better live music than the show they put on. Then, another debut, Bowery Station welcomes Two Foot Level for a show from 6-9pm. Featuring the bassist of Ten Pound Pancake, Todd Beavis, Two Foot Level is a band from Tallahassee, Fl. whose music could be described as a blend of Folk, Bluegrass, Rock, Americana, and Funky goodness. Funky goodness…now That’s BS!
Sunday, April 8 – Matt Law is lighting up your Sunday from 4-8. We all know Matt does it all, and does it well, with a diverse set list from oldies through your favorite Americana classics. Always able to share some bluesy originals, Matt is just what the doctor ordered when it comes to making your live music vibe right on a Sunday afternoon in Apalachicola.
Thanks again for your continued support of the best live music in Apalachicola. Please forward this to your friends and remind them that they too can sign up to receive these live music updates by going to: musicupdate.bowerystation.us!
