The Guardian ad Litem Program is hosting orientation sessions on January 26 from noon to 1 PM and from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Franklin County Parks and Recreation Armory at  66 4th Ave Apalachicola, FL

Guardian ad Litem volunteers are community members who represent abused or neglected children before the court, social service agencies and the community. They are the child’s voices and the ones who show the child their community cares. Volunteers are trained and work in a team environment with program staff, including attorneys. On average, Guardians devote 8-10 hour a month to their cases.  The GAL Program needs volunteers from Franklin County to work with local children. Community members are the best advocates for these children, ensuring their interests are heard and served in the court and community.  Volunteers ensure the children received the services they need, including educational services.  If you have a heart to help a child, the Guardian ad Litem program could be for you.  Guardian ad Litem volunteer training consists of a combination of online materials, independent studies, classroom education and fieldwork activities. Volunteers work their first case with a peer mentor. The training prepares you to be an advocate and a voice for the child.  Guardian ad Litem advocates are at least 19 years of age. Advocates will need to complete a criminal background screening and a pre-service training program, which will be offered in Franklin County in February
