St. George Lighthouse Association Hosts Annual Veterans Day Ceremony
The St. George Lighthouse Association in partnership with SGI Veterans Reveille Group and the 106th American Legion in Apalachicola invite everyone to attend the Veterans Day Ceremony in Lighthouse Park on Friday, November 11, 2022, at 11 AM. Again this year, the Navy JROTC of Franklin County School will be providing Color Guard Services.
This year’s ceremony will feature special guest, Retired Vice Admiral Gerald L. Hoewing, of the US Navy and Former CEO of the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation, along with our own Franklin County High School Navy Junior ROTC Color Guard, providing color guard services.
Guest Speaker, Vice Admiral Gerald L. Hoewing, US Navy (ret), served for 35 years in the United States Navy as a Naval Aviator flying missions from aircraft carriers at sea. He commanded an F/A-18 squadron, a Combat Logistics Support Ship, an Aircraft Carrier, a Carrier Strike Group, and the Navy Personnel Command. In his final naval assignment, Vice Admiral Hoewing served as the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Manpower, Personnel, Training and Education where he was responsible for the growth and development of all active and reserve Navy men and women.
Veterans Day is an official United States public holiday, observed annually on November 11, that honors military veterans; that is, persons who served in the United States Armed Forces.
We encourage you to attend as we honor all veterans and fill Lighthouse Park for this very important event. There is limited seating so please bring your own chairs. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony and the lighthouse will be open to everyone, with free climbs offered to all veterans.
Add your event to our calendar.
