Crooked River Lighthouse
For over 125 years Crooked River Lighthouse has been a guiding light for sea travelers navigating the treacherous pass between Dog and St. George Islands. The 103-foot tower erected in 1895 on the mainland, replaced three short-lived Dog Island beacons destroyed by storms and in the 1800s. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Decommissioned by the US Coast Guard in 1995, the historic tower was transferred to the City of Carrabelle just weeks before being auctioned off. An acrylic replica lens beams nightly from atop the stately pines along the forgotten coast. The original 4th Order Fresnel lens manufactured in Paris in 1894 is the featured artifact at the Keeper’s House Museum and Gift Shop. The iron and steel skeletal tower is accessed through an interior stairwell with 128 winding steps leading to a 360-degree keeper’s watch room and exterior viewing platform.
Daytime tower climbs are available during museum hours. Check our website for operating hours and tower climb prices. Climbers must be 44 inches tall. Special event tower climbs are also available.
