Florida’s Changing Waters: A Beautiful World in Peril by Lynne Buchanan
Apalachicola Riverkeeper and the Gallery at High Cotton are co-hosting an Author Talk and Book Signing on Thursday, May 16th, at the Gallery at 230 Water St. Florida’s Changing Waters: A Beautiful World in Peril, is a 232-page book of photographs by Lynne Buchanan. The book contains remarks by Lynne as well as essays and comments by leading water experts and scientists.
The Apalachicola River is prominently featured in this outstanding photography collection which not only showcases the beauty, diversity and complexity of Florida’s waters, but also documents the negative effects of pollution, population growth and land development, and climate change on Florida’s inland and coastal waters and springs.
“Kayaking down the Apalachicola River on the RiverTrek Team a few years ago with Apalachicola Riverkeeper was a real highlight in my life,” said Lynne Buchanan. “When I think back to when I first moved to Florida 55 years ago, that was a time when people could swim in the rivers and didn’t have to be afraid of toxic water quality. The Apalachicola was one of the most pristine rivers back then, and it has been hard witnessing how the water wars and the diminishing flow of freshwater to the River have caused damage to the entire ecosystem. It was crucial to me to include the Apalachicola River in my book.”
Downtown Books in Apalachicola is carrying this newly-published photography classic. To purchase a book at the event, attendees may pay with cash or with checks payable to Downtown Books. Snacks and refreshments will be served.
