The St. George Island Volunteer Fire Department’s (SGIVFD) response area includes the island of St. George and its surrounding waters. The SGIVFD provides services including firefighting, hazardous material response, medical services, land vehicle rescue and extraction, water vehicle rescue, search and rescue and support. The SGIVFD currently has 9 vehicles used for a variety of search, response and firefighting situations including water rescue, all terrain search and multi level firefighting. On the little island of St. George, the SGIVFD is more than a fire department, it’s the heart of the community and an invaluable resource in tomes of need. The SGIVFD provides mutual aid to surrounding Volunteer Fire Departments and Franklin County United Firefighters Assoc. the SGIVFD is a 501 C 3 organization funded entirely through grants, donations and fundraising.
