BS Operating systems have run an upgrade and with it you will notice a new feature at most of our Open Mics known as “Spotlight on the Mic.” The idea being that many performers would like to expand beyond the normal 3 songs they play at Open Mic, and frequently small bands would like to showcase their skills but it is cumbersome to switch over a lot of gear between performers. To that end, “Spotlight on the Mic” starts on Wednesdays at 5:30 and let’s an act play 30-45 minutes to lead us into BS Open Mic. If you, or someone you knows would like to sign up for a date to be on Spotlight on the Mic, email us at BS@bowerystation.us.
Wednesday, May 9 – Our first “Spotlight on the Mic” features the Jenessa Akin Band from 5:30-6:15. Jenessa Akin plays the music of Etta James, Amy Winehouse, Bill Withers, Jimi Hendrix, and more. With roots in Motown and Blues, Jenessa and her father Monte bring an intimate, straightforward view of classic hits. It’s a pleasure to have this young talent appear for our first Spotlight on the Mic at Bowery Station. Then Open Mic rolls from 6-8ish. All tips for Open Mic performers this week will go towards the Cricket Fund for Beyond Diagnosis that helps women in Franklin and Gulf County that have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. This is in lead up to our Chickfest 2018 on Friday and Saturday of this week…
Thursday, May 10 – Sticky Too returns to help us make Thursdays the New Fridays from 6-8:30! One of the most talented duos to hit the BS stage, Tim and Jay bring tight vocal harmonies and great guitar skills to a set list that can please any crowd. Built for Thursdays in the Bowery, it’s going to be a great way to heat up the stage for a big event as we head into the weekend!
Get ready folks, because Chickfest 2018 is going to be better than ever!!! This annual event that pays tribute to female artists that have graced our stage has expanded into a two day event filled with incredibly gifted ladies!
Friday, May 11 – We open Chickfest 2018 with regional favorite Ashley Feller in the afternoon from 4-6pm. Ashley has a great set list of covers, but shares her well written originals as well. She brings a contagious smile to every one of her shows and we are excited to have her open up this year’s event. Then, joining us from Indiana, Natalie Gaza brings with her violinist Jennifer Cimbala and percussionist Wendy Whitmore for a show from 7-10pm. Having graced venues such as Chicago’s House of Blues, Natalie was able to fit Apalachicola and Bowery Station into her travels a few months back, and we knew immediately that she would be a great act for Chickfest 2018. Natalie infuses powerful introspective lyrics with a unique folk/rock musical energy. Her multi-layered song structure and skilled guitar work deliver a memorable listener experience. This trio will provide a night to remember here in Apalach!
Saturday, May 12 – Chickfest 2018 continues, starting early at 1pm with youthful Tallahassee talent McCall Chapin, the day continues with talent that includes Cat Braaten, the Adventures of Annabelle Lyn, Savanna Leigh Bassett, Sarah Moranville, and the Krickets! The entire day provides a variety of styles and genres from country, folk, bluegrass and americana, but clearly is a showcase of some of the most impressive female talent on the Gulf Coast. Plan for a full day so as to not miss out on any of these spectacular acts. Bowery Station is blessed to have these ladies join us in Apalachicola for this exciting, and what will prove to be memorable, multi-day event.
Sunday, May 13 – Dothan’s Dave Dale returns to Apalachicola for a show from 4-8pm. Dave always puts on a friendly show of country, rock, southern rock, and americana, and can make any crowd sing along. It doesn’t take long to catch Dave’s case of enthusiasm, and it’s a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon in Apalachicola!
Now that’s a weekly lineup, so plan accordingly! Again, our heartfelt thanks go out to the musicians that grace our stage, and help us keep live music alive, and to those of you that support our efforts in our small town of Apalach!
See you at the show!
